Team secured their seat for the semi-finals of the Dubai Silver Cup by winning today
against Mahra Polo Team 5-3. During the semi-finals Abu Dhabi Polo Team will
face the tournaments’ highest goalers, Ghantoot Polo Team, on Tuesday 12th
February at 2.30pm.
At today’s
match Abu Dhabi Polo Team started off strong from the outset, played
aggressively and focused by bringing out their best horses right in the first
chukka which took the team to a three point lead. Starting off on a strong foot
the team continued playing consistently, kept control throughout the match,
progressed and grew cohesiveness throughout the four chukkas finally winning the
game by a 2-point lead. In the past matches of the Dubai Silver Cup, Abu Dhabi
Polo Team has been plagued by consecutive bad luck with 2 injured players,
narrowly missed goals and loosing by the skin of their teeth.
After todays’
win, Faris Al Yebhouni, captain of Abu Dhabi Polo Team expressed his contentment:
“There was a
lack of cohesiveness but we made progress since the last matches and I think
that we are back on track. Today, everyone in the team was playing really well and
we are back on form. Now with luck on our side I am very excited to see how the
semi-finals will transpire on Tuesday. Ghantoot is a very tough team to play
against; it has great players and excellent horses. If we can keep our heads
about us, I think we can surprise some people.”
Abu Dhabi
Polo Team has made headlines in the past years by winning the UAE’s most
prestigious tournaments such as the Dubai Polo Gold Cup in 2011, the Silver Cup
in 2012 and the subsidiary final of the Gold Cup in 2012. Abu Dhabi Polo Team is the brainchild of
Faris Al Yebhouni who is also the captain of the team.
